Targeted Drug Information in Community Care

The project will adjust and further develop MediComb’s medical information system for use in the municipal care sector with the aim of ensuring better handling of medicines for citizens

Background

The health system's increased focus on outpatient diagnosis and treatment as well as treatment of patients in their own homes has led to increased complexity in the municipalities' problem-solving processes - including the task of handling medicines to citizens who have been given a number of different remedies.

Therefore, an easier and more targeted approach to providing medical information is needed to support the municipalities' drug-handling competencies.

Purpose /Vision

The objective of the project is to further develop the company MediComb's medical information system to match the requirements of the municipal care sector, and to test the customised system at the Glostrup-based old people's home "Ældrecenter Dalvangen". The trial will be conducted with a view to preparing a MAST evaluation report (Model for the Assessment of Telemedicine) in order to prove the system's capacity to handle prescribed medication within the care sector.

Expected Results

The project will end up with a complete solution to MediComb's new municipal care-sector product. The trial is intended to help demonstrate the potentials of MediComb's medical information system within the care sector, and the MAST evaluation will depict situations that can be of value to caregivers, the healthcare system and the citizens' state of health.

No financial savings are anticipated as a consequence of the municipal's engagement during the trial period, but economic benefits will hopefully surface over a longer period of time because of a reduced number of drug-related hospitalisations. In addition, an improved medical information scheme and thus improved medical treatment may enhance the citizen's habitual condition and quality of life.
